To make these pieces, I manipulated recordings of myself reading aloud from various original texts. Sometimes the interventions are purely digital, like cutting the recitation into fragments and using them to trigger musical events. In other cases I've mapped words or syllables onto a sampler instrument and then reconstructed halting, glitchy speech through physical performance. I've also treated largely-unaltered text to musical accompaniment that both intensifies and obscures its dramatic and narrative content. Regardless of the strategy, this project ultimately values sincerity over artifice; it's earnest and vulnerable despite the often far-out sound world.
